| Day #3: Monte San Vicino Tour |
We leave San Severino Marche to reach mount San Vicino the highest mountain (1479 mt) of the Marches Appenine range, split between the two provinces of Ancona and Macerata. This mount must have been of great importance to the inhabitants who settled at its foot and slopes in ancient times. In fact Mount Vicino can be seen both from the west, that is from the nearby Umbria, and from the east, the Adriatic Sea coast. The view from its summit is almost at 360° and goes from the mountains to the sea.
The route up mount San Vicino presents a short stretch of high difficulty. The distance covered this day is 60 Km (37.2 miles). and covers roads with light traffic apart from the last eight kilometres which is a busy road and links the small town of Gagliole to San Severino Marche. The noteworthy moments of this part of the tour are the uphill climb to mount San Vicino, the amazing view from the top and the descent through the hills of Matelica where the Verdicchio Doc wine of Matelica is produced. Difficulty: Hard
